BBC News reports that Italians are increasingly worried that wolves are becoming too comfortable around humans as the animals are seen in villages and towns in daylight hours around the country.
In addition, Central Italian farmers fed up with lack of government action are accused of dumping the dead carcasses of wolves in highly visible areas of towns. Wolves are a fully protected species in Italy/. The country's estimated 800-1,000 wolves are believed to have killed about 3,000 head of livestock last year.
