Sarah Hunt is pleased to announce her candidacy for the Pinedale Town Council.
Sarah was born and has grown up in Sublette County. As the daughter of local business owners Chuck and Terry Hunt and granddaughter of Betty Hunt, Hunt has been very involved in the community of Pinedale from a young age. After high school graduation, Hunt left Sublette County to get her B.A. in Intercultural studies from Northwestern College in Minneapolis, MN. She finished her undergraduate degree with study abroad in Cairo, Egypt which allowed her to travel throughout the Middle East after graduation. Sarah then returned to Pinedale for a year before she joined the Peace Corps and was stationed in Romania for over 2 years. After the Peace Corps she returned home to Sublette County before setting off for the University of Denver where she received her Master’s in Intercultural and International Communications.
Sarah returned to Pinedale after her Master’s program to work for the Sublette County SAFV Task Force as the Violence Prevention Coordinator. Currently, she works for the Sublette County Library here in Pinedale as an assistant librarian. Hunt is a charter member of Soroptimist International of Sublette County as well as being an active volunteer for SAFV after her paid position ended.
Hunt has decided to run for Pinedale Town Council because she feels it is vital for young people and women to be involved in local politics. Her hope is to get more people in their 20’s and 30’s out to vote and to become involved in their community. Another important issue for Sarah is that women are represented in local politics. Hunt says, "I am so blessed to be from a state that has so many strong and influential women who are role models. I grew up with women like my grandmother, Betty, who worked in or for the town government, teaching me that I need to be involved if I want to make a difference."
If elected, Sarah will work on making the Pinedale Town Council a place that all people feel they are welcomed and represented equally, especially the more underserved or unheard populations of the community. She also plans to ensure that Pinedale is a town where it is possible for small, local business to thrive year-round. According to Hunt, "My family owns two small businesses here in Pinedale and many of my friends own their own stores, restaurants, or construction businesses. I have a good grasp on what is needed to help small business grow. Growing up here and seeing the ‘boom and bust’ economy that is so prevalent for this state I want to see what can be done to avoid the ‘bust’ part and instead have steady growth and a reliable economy that will maintain our community’s quality of living."
Ms. Hunt is hosting a Campaign Kick-Off reception for Sarah Hunt for Pinedale Town Council on Wednesday, April 16th from 4:30pm – 7pm at Wind River Pizzeria, 4 Country Club Ln, Pinedale.
