Man injured in shooting incident at Dutch Joe

The Sublette County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) provided the following information about a shooting incident that happened in the Dutch Joe area of Big Sandy on Saturday, May 17th:
On Saturday, May 17th at approximately 5:00 a.m. the SCSO received a call regarding a shooting in the area of Dutch Joe. The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office had received information that a male subject had been shot in the arm and was heading to Wyoming Highway 28 to meet an ambulance that had been dispatched from Lander. Sublette County deputies responded to the area and made contact with the victim who reported that he had been involved in an altercation with a male subject while camping in the Dutch Joe area. The injured party reported that he believed the other male involved in the altercation was still at the camp. Deputies responded to the campsite located off the Dutch Joe Ranger Station road and the lone individual, Emory Mahaffey from Casper, was taken into custody without incident.
Charging documents are being prepared by the Sublette County Attorney’s Office and the investigation is ongoing. The victim in the case was treated and released.
