The Big Piney Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest plans to resume ignitions on the Cottonwood II prescribed burn beginning Wednesday, October 8th. This project is located 20 miles west of Daniel in the North and South Cottonwood Creek drainages of the Wyoming Range. Plans are to have one day of burning in a small 18-acre unit in the Sjhoberg Creek area of North Cottonwood on Wednesday. Then, weather dependent, hope to move on to another unit on the north side of South Cottonwood drainage on Friday or Saturday.

Weather and fuel conditions will drive actual ignition dates for the burn.

Objectives:
•Increase aspen regeneration and reduce encroaching conifer
•Increase forage conditions for wildlife habitat
•Reduce hazardous fuels build-up
•Restore fire-adaptive ecosystem Smoky conditions may be experienced temporarily in the area. Hazards exist in and near the burn and the public is urged to avoid recreating in the vicinity during burn operations. Interagency fire managers will attempt to minimize impacts to Forest visitors during implementation.

There are no closures associated with the burns, but the Forest Service asks that the public stay clear of the area while firefighters are working and be aware of hazards that will exist in the vicinity of burned areas post ignition; falling snags, hot pockets/stump holes, rolling rocks and debris on steeper slopes, smoke and active flames in the interior of burn units.
