Flag half staff

Governor Matthew H. Mead, pursuant to President Barack Obama's National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day 2014 Proclamation, has ordered both the U.S. flag and the State of Wyoming flag be flown at half-staff statewide from sunrise to sunset on Sunday, December 7, 2014 in honor of the American patriots who died as a result of their service at Pearl Harbor.

History note: Early on the morning of December 7, 1941, the Imperial Japanese Navy conducted a surprise military strike on the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The base was attacked by Japanese fighter planes, bombers, and torpedo planes launched from six aircraft carriers. Eight U.S. Navy battleships, three cruisers, three destroyers, an anti-aircraft training ship, and one minelayer were targeted and many sunk or severely damaged. 188 U.S. aircraft were destroyed. 2,403 Americans were killed and 1,178 others were wounded. The attack led to the United States’ entry into World War II.
