Local non profits are joining to honor county volunteers at the First Annual Cally McKee Helping Hands Volunteer Appreciation Dinner. The dinner is scheduled for Saturday, January 10, at 6p.m.in the Lovett Room at the Pinedale Library. Staff and board members from the Arts Council, The Discovery Center, the After School Program and the 4H programs have ban together to spearhead this first event.
Sixty volunteer non-profit groups were identified and sent letters asking them to submit their Volunteer of the Year to be recognized at the event. About 30 groups have submitted individuals or project to be honored.
"Following the Non-profit Sustainability Training sponsored by the Wyoming Community Foundation and Shell held last summer it became apparent that there is a vast economy hidden in plain sight that we all overlook." said Jo Crandall, a member of the organizing committee. "Thousands of hours and many, many programs and projects happen in our county because of donated time and talents. We thought it would be nice to identify and honor the many people and organizations that make this happen and enrich our lives in the process."
Wendy Walter added, "We decided to name the event after Cally McKee because she was an active volunteer herself who served on many different county boards. Cally understood the stabilizing force nonprofits contribute to healthy communities and advocated to the gas and oil industry for the non-profits in the community. Her support was amazing!" Ultra Petroleum is helping sponsor the event as a tribute to Cally, who was their employee.
According to the sponsoring committee, the uniqueness of volunteerism in our county will be the focus of the event. The evening is not a fundraiser, but a celebration of local nonprofit volunteers who will be recognized, the organizations they work for, and the contributions they make to our communities.
Tickets for the evening cover the cost of the meal. They are $30 and can be purchased at Office Outlet, The Cowboy Shop and online through the Pinedale Fine Arts Council website, www.pinedalefinearts.com. All in the community are invited to attend this celebration. For more information call Jo Crandall, 307-413-3637; Wendy Walter, 307-360-7807; or Kari DeWitt 307-367-7322.
