The Pinedale Fine Arts Council is proud to present an exhibit/lecture and reception for Laramie, Wyoming artist Shelby Shadwell on Friday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. in the Sublette County Library (Pinedale) Lovatt Room. This event is free to the public and wine and appetizers will be served.
Shadwell, a professor at the University of Wyoming, will also be spending a week in residence with Pinedale High School and Middle School art students. The residency will focus on tonal drawing and observation.
"We’re really excited to have Shelby in residence in Pinedale," PFAC Outreach Director Tim Ruland said. "We have pretty high standards when it comes to who we book into the Sublette School Districts and Shelby brings a wealth of national exhibit and teaching experience to the table. And being able to present a week-long school residency with an end-of-the-week lecture and reception is something we try to make happen whenever the stars align. It’ll be a really fun evening."
The Feb. 13 evening reception will feature Shadwell presenting a slide show lecture accompanied by a small exhibit of his work as well as work completed by Pinedale Middle and High School students during his week-in-residence. Born and raised in Springfield, Missouri, Shelby received his BFA from Washington University School of Fine Art in St. Louis, where he studied printmaking and drawing. He accepted a full fellowship to attend Southern Illinois University and went on to graduate with an MFA in printmaking and drawing in 2006.
Shelby actively exhibits across the nation and was recently featured in the International Drawing Annual 5 and 6 publications through the Manifest Creative Research Gallery and Drawing Center in Cincinnati, Ohio where he also had a solo show last February.
Shelby Shadwell’s reception and residency are presented by the Pinedale Fine Arts Council with support from Sublette BOCES, Wyoming Arts Council and Sublette County School District No. 1.
