Town of Pinedale update: Municipal Drinking Water from Fremont Lake
June 18, 2015
One of the many critical functions of the Town of Pinedale staff is to maintain clean, safe, and desirable drinking water for our Town. We take this responsibility seriously and have well-trained employees and up-to-date facilities to make it happen.
What are some things you should know about our water?
Our water is from Fremont Lake. The intake is approximately 100 feet below the surface and the water is so clean that we are not required to filter it. It is transported to the Town facilities for disinfection. The Town of Pinedale uses a combination of processes including the addition of chlorine or other disinfectants to kill bacteria and micro-organisms that may be in the water; and we also use UV Light Disinfection to neutralize micro-organisms that are resistant to the chlorine and other chemicals.
Our water remains safe. The Environmental Protection Agency mandates the testing of our water annually. We are pleased to announce that the detailed findings of the test, (the 2014 Annual Water Report) are available in print at the Town Hall, 210 West Pine St., or are on our website www.townofpinedale.us.
We are very proud of the water the Town of Pinedale produces and it is about as pure as it gets! However, drinking water, including bottled water, may reasonably be expected to contain a small amount of some contaminants. This does not necessarily make it unsafe. There are some people, however that may be at higher risk than the rest of our population due to personal health issues. If you have a concerns or questions, please contact your personal health advisor or contact the Safe Water Drinking Hotline at 800-426-4791.
There is another area that we can improve in. It is what we call Cross Connections. These are improper connections to the water source that can unknowingly allow untreated water back into the treated water supply and inadvertently contaminate it. Please let us know if you have any connection that you suspect may be an issue. Maintaining clean water is up to all of us.
So, what can you do to help keep our water clean and refreshing? Make sure Fremont Lake and its shores are kept clean. Call the Town if you see any activities that you think could contaminate our water.
Have a wonderful summer and feel free to refill those water bottles from home!
