"Do what you feel in your heart to be right - for you'll be criticized anyway. You'll be damned if you do, and damned if you don't." -- Eleanor Roosevelt
Most of us remember a teacher, coach, or parent telling us that, "there are two sides to every story", as we grew up. In many cases, a difference of opinion can be resolved by simply listening clearly to the other side. So Pinedale, let’s talk. Don’t believe everything you hear. Often, something that starts factually evolves into something far worse as people interpret and re-interpret. If you have a question about something, there are several options available to get information.
You could attend a meeting, look at the Town’s website, or come have Coffee with the Mayor on Thursday mornings at 8:00 AM. In addition to the Mayor continuing to take appointments with citizens as he always has, we will now hold a very informal chat for an hour on Thursdays. This is a great time to ask questions about things that concern you, rather than relying solely on information from others. The first "coffee talk" will occur this Thursday, August 20th, here at the Town Hall. Bring a smile, we’ll have the coffee.
Let’s look at one of the positive changes that have come from fresh ideas. The Pinedale Lodging Tax has been distributed back into the community, through the Pinedale Travel and Tourism Commission, supporting local events that not only attract tourists to bolster our local economy, but give area residents things to do too. A total of roughly $60,000 in Grants was pumped into local events last fiscal year. These events included concerts, rodeos, sporting tournaments, arts and crafts events, and more. The Commission plans to continue investing money from the Lodging Tax back into this type of tourism friendly local events. If you are planning a public event that will bring guests into our Town, your event may qualify for a Grant. For more information, or to obtain the Grant Application to help fund your event, visit www.townofpinedale.us or call Town Hall at 307-367-4136 and ask for Maureen. The deadline for applications is August 30th.
In closing, I’d like to remind everyone that we live in an incredible Town, with amazing scenery, enviable resources, and people who truly care about one another. However, with our busy lives it is sometimes easier to absorb change as negative rather than take the time to ask yourself how you can help shape it. If you love Pinedale, as we here at the Town Hall do, get involved and ask how you can be a part of the things you care about in our community. We welcome your participation.
