Town of Pinedale update
November 13, 2015

With old man winter nearly upon us the snow plows have been tuned up and are ready to go. The Town Public Works staff is trained and prepared for the early morning shifts. We are ready to let it snow!

There are a few things we need your help with though. Please remember that we ask you to keep trash cans, toys, and other things out of the streets and off the curbs to allow for safe movement of the snow plows. Also, please remember that it is your responsibility to clean snow and ice from the sidewalks in front of your property or business. If you have questions about the ordinances, they can be found on the town website at www.townofpinedale.us. Then, just search "snow".

This year, we have a few small changes in how we will be handling snow removal. The first thing is that we will be scheduling staff in split shifts to allow for someone from Public Works to be available the entire business day. We believe that there must always be someone available to monitor other health and welfare issues such as water and sewer.

We will run snow plows only when we have or anticipate having at least a 3 inch accumulation of snow. There may be times when you see three trucks operating one right after the next down Pine Street to more quickly complete a thorough removal ratherthan conduct a partial removal over and an extended time. We feel that it is safer to get the plowing done as rapidly as possible. The snow will be pushed into the middle of the streets as it always has, then only when it becomes a visibility problem, we it being hauled away. Hauling the snow must be done by a contractor and it is costly. We encourage those cleaning their areas of responsibility to use the bulb outs and a parking space to push snow into. Please don’t push it into the street where it will form a berm that hampers equipment and causes unsafe operating conditions.

The other change we want you to be aware of is, other than on Pine Street, we will plow only up to about 2 feet from the curb. Since we will be staying a safer distance from the curb, we should damage equipment less and cause less wear and tear on the curbs themselves.

With that, we must remember to park safe distances from corners even when we cannot see yellow, and not park in front of signs and hydrants.

As we head into minus degrees and have to battle the snow and ice, we must remember that we here in Pinedale have much to give thanks for. We are a small community that is so lucky to be in a landscape where we can look out on the snow covered peaks, snow ski, ice skate, sled, and even mush! With all that to look forward to, what’s a little bit of shoveling?
