Winter Driving in Wyoming

Here are webcam views of Interstate 80 in Wyoming for Thursday, Dec. 17th. The Wyoming Department of Transportation closed the interstate in the morning due to very hazardous road driving conditions. Anyone traveling through Wyoming in the winter is advised to monitor road conditions along their route and be prepared for possible road closures when weather conditions are bad. Plan for extra time to reach your destination and plot out alternate driving routes. Carry emergency supplies in your vehicle and be prepared for the possibility of having to spend waiting time in your vehicle. Have a cell phone for communication. If your route takes you over mountain passes, carry chains. Roads can be closed for hours or even days at a time during winter storm events.
The good news is that these storms dump great snow in the mountains for the ski hills and backcountry snowmobiling. Wyoming has great fleets of snowplows and heavy duty equipment with operators who work tirelessly in awful conditions to get the roads back open. They do a great job and usually things open up pretty quickly once the storm moves through.
