Winter wildlife

Snacking One of the things we love about living in Pinedale is the abundant wildlife in the area. This mama moose and her calf were seen munching on branches of a hedge in front of a residence in town on Monday morning.
Winter deer Several large groups of deer were found enjoying the Lander Trail-New Fork River Crossing historical park on Saturday. The park is located on the south end of Paradise Road, south of Boulder, where the Lander Trail crosses the New Fork River. The Lander Trail opened in 1859 and was an alternate shortcut used by Oregon Trail emigrants making the journey by ox-teams and wagons to Oregon and California. The river crossing was a challenging obstacle and the cottonwood grove was used as a place to camp, make repairs, and allow the animals to rest. The 104-acre park is owned and managed by the Sublette County Historical Society. The park is open to pedestrian traffic over the winter, but the main parking lot is closed off to vehicle traffic until the snow melts off and the mud dries up. www.newforkpark.org
