by WAS March 12, 2016 The Upper Green River Basin Chapter of the Wyoming Archaeological Society (WAS) will hold their next regular meeting on Tuesday, March 15 at 6:30PM at the Museum of the Mountain Man in Pinedale. There will be a short business meeting followed by a presentation by Stacy Goodrick of Western Archaeological Services. His talk will be an overview of housepits (evidence of dwellings made by mobile hunter-gather people dating back 5,000 to 8,000 years ago) along the Sweetwater and New Fork Rivers, and the Jonah Natural Gas Field south of Pinedale. "Several sites excavated across Wyoming provide evidence of housepits that occur from the end of the Paleoindian period through the Archaic and Late Prehistoric periods. Patterns of architectural style and distribution have been noted, and several temporal, geographical, and functional associations have been hypothesized." |
