There will be a public meeting tomorrow night, July 27, 2016, at the Kendall Valley Fire Station, 2470 Hwy. 352 Cora, WY at 6:00 p.m. • The Cliff Creek fire was discovered on the Bridger-Teton National Forest at 2:30pm on Sunday, July 17, approximately 5 miles north of the town of Bondurant Wyoming.
• The fire is being actively suppressed with a mixture of ground crews and aerial resources. Where fire is moving towards the Gros Ventre Wilderness and the wilderness study area, fire will be permitted to play, as nearly as possible, its natural ecological role in the wilderness.
• The firefighters are planning to continue burnouts. A burnout is setting fire inside a control line to consume fuel between the edge of the fire and the control line. Often referred to as "fighting fire with fire," the controlled burn will burn strip(s) of vegetation to create a barrier to the oncoming by using up all the available fuel between the burnout and the fire. It may take firefighters several days to complete the burnout operation. During burnout operations, the public can expect to see an increase in smoke coming from the fire area.
• Teton County Emergency Management issued a mandatory evacuation order for the Granite Creek area including Granite Campground, Granite Hot Springs, Jack Pine Summer Homes, and the Safari Club.
