Travel Alert tips from Wyoming Office of Tourism
by Wyoming Office of Tourism
July 18, 2016

The Wyoming Office of Tourism has added the following travel alert to their website due to the closure of US 191 between Daniel and Hoback Junction. This alert may be found at www.travelwyoming.com/alerts

US Highway 191 between Daniel Junction and Hoback Junction is estimated to remain closed until 10 a.m. Tuesday July 19th. US 191 was initially closed yesterday at around 3:30 p.m. due to the quickly growing Cliff Creek Fire. The fire was discovered at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday approximately 5-miles north of the town of Bondurant. Firefighters closed Highway 89/191 north of Bondurant due to heavy smoke and active fire jumping over the highway.

Folks traveling to the Nothwest corner of Wyoming are encouraged to re route through Riverton and take Highway 26 to Moran Junction or on the Western side of the state through Afton on Highway 89 to Hoback Junction.

Smoke will be visible and emergency crew will be active, but at present, the fire does not threaten the public's safety.

Wildfire Prevention and Safety
Visitors should be aware of the potential for wildfires during this time of year. Many public land agencies may implement fire restrictions to proactively mitigate wildfire risk. The Wyoming Office of Tourism encourages you to check with local state and federal land management agencies while you're out adventuring to be up to date on the latest advisories.

Keep these tips in mind before you leave home as well as on the trail to make for an enjoyable outdoor experience during fire season!
• Before going hiking or camping, check with public land management agencies for fire restrictions or area closures.
• Plan ahead and prepare—know your route, sign in at the trailhead, let someone else know where you are going and be sure to know how to get out!
• Consider alternatives to campfires during periods of high fire danger.
• Be aware of sudden changes in the weather or changing weather conditions.
