Perseid Meteor Shower in August

August 6, 2016
The Perseid meteor shower will be in August as Earth passes through the long trail left by Comet Swift-Tuttle. According to astronomers, this meteor shower will only occur once more, in the year 2026. This year’s show is expected to be quite spectacular. Shooting stars will be visible until August 24th. The best viewing will be between August 11th and 13th when it might be possible to see up to 100-200 meteors per hour. The best viewing is in dark locations where there is an unobstructed view of the night sky. On August 11th, the moon’s light will interfere with the early night viewing, but the moon should set after 1AM. Remember, it will be another 10 years before the Perseids will be seen again, so star gazers won’t want to miss the show this time around.
