Sheriff’s Office recognizes employees
by Sublette County Sheriff’s Office
December 22, 2016
The Sublette County Sheriff’s Office held its annual Christmas party at the BOCES library this past weekend. There were over 100 employees, spouses and kids in attendance which included the Wyoming State Highway Patrol, County Animal Control Officer Juan "Bautista"Goicoechea, Sublette County Coroner Curt Covill, and Deputy Coroner Don Schooley.
Don Schooley was recognized for his service to Sublette County; both as a Deputy Sheriff and as the County Coroner. Don began his career with the Sheriff’s Office in 1983. He continued to work as a Deputy until 2003 at which time he was elected Sublette County Coroner. Don served three terms as Coroner until handing the reins over to Curt Covill who was elected in 2014. Don is still a Deputy Coroner under Coroner Covill and caretaker of the six cemeteries throughout Sublette County.
Schooley was presented with a stag handled knife purchased by the current administration. The handle is engraved with his name, the titles he has held, and his years of service. Sheriff K.C. Lehr spoke about a custom going back to some of the first Rendezvous, where if you gifted someone a knife they were expected to give you something in return. In doing so, this ensured you wouldn’t cut the friendship. "Don has given more to this office and to this community to cover that debt and then some," Lehr said. "I am happy that I get this opportunity to give Don the recognition he deserves and to let him know that he is appreciated."
Deputy Robert Laing received a thank you from Cub Master Louise Winney for speaking with the Bondurant Pack 9 Cub Scouts this winter. The Cubs thanked Deputy Laing for taking time to talk with them and for showing them the "ins and outs" of a Sublette County patrol truck. Sublette County Sheriff K.C. Lehr added, "Deputy Laing has always held an active role in our community. Whether it is assisting with hunter education, speaking to scouts, or being present at the party conventions. Deputy Laing portrays that part of service which our law enforcement doesn’t get enough recognition for. I’m thankful to Mr. and Mrs. Winney and the Cubs for recognizing Deputy Laing and the work he does."
