Wyoming Legislature update – January 13, 2017

Hello Sublette County, this is Albert Sommers reporting to you from Cheyenne on Friday, the last day of the first week of the legislative session.
Wow, it sounds like we have some winter back home, which is good for our snowpack. I have been told the last time we had a Supermoon as close to earth as last fall, was January of 1948, which was one of the worst winters on record.
Today in the Appropriations Committee, agencies once again presented their budgets to the committee. Today’s agencies included the Wildlife and Natural Resource Fund, State Parks, and the Department of Revenue.
In Committee of the Whole, first floor debate in the House for a bill, we heard a bill that allows electronic communication for Unemployment Insurance, a bill that provides time extensions for adult protective orders, and a bill that provides for updates in insurance code. All of these bills had been vetted in the summer, and passed to second reading easily. Next week in Appropriations we will begin to mark up the budget bill, which will be a new experience for me.
