Wyoming Game & Fish seeks help with deer mortality survey
Will be done on Saturday, May 13th
April 28, 2017
The Wyoming Game & Fish Department is seeking volunteers to help with this year’s spring Deer mortality survey in the Pinedale area. Wildlife managers are expecting fairly significant winter mortality in area mule deer and pronghorn herds. The sample of winter mortality provides an indication of overall loss and what age classes were impacted the most. Preliminary indications suggest at least 80% of last year’s mule deer fawns have been lost and an above-average portion of adult deer.
Each year Wyoming Game & Fish biologists try to get a picture of the situation. Pinedale wildlife managers are asking members of the public to help them survey local deer winter ranges this spring, either on foot or horseback. Those interested in participating in the survey should plan to meet at the Pinedale Game & Fish Office at 9:00AM on Saturday, May 13th.
