The recreation event is tied to the annual Wind River Mountain Festival.
This proposed event would be an adventure race consisting of 3 legs; mountain biking, paddling and a trekking portion for a maximum of 100 participants and approximately 30 spectators. The mountain biking portion of the course would occur on existing cross-country trails in the Kelly Park and White Pine Area. The trekking portion would occur off trail, outside of Wilderness in the Sweeney Creek Drainage and from Kelly Park to Fremont Lake. The paddling leg will occur on Fremont Lake. The race will begin at White Pine and end at Lakeside Lodge. This would be a full-day event on July 23, 2017.
Proposed operating requirements include parking for participants and spectators would be limited to the White Pine Ski Area, Kelly Park, Fremont Lake Campground Group Site and Lakeside Lodge. No parking would be allowed along Forest Service Roads #749, #741, #740, nor at the Sandy Beach Swimming and Picnic Area. Where events cross roadways or have potential impacts with other recreation users, signing will be posted by the permit holder.
