Here are the latest updates from Wyoming, including travel information, events, road reports and weather, as well as some reminders for residents and travelers.
• Traffic counts increased Sunday: Wyoming traffic counts increased by more than 217,000 vehicles on Sunday as compared to a five-year average for the same timeframe, according to a report released by WYDOT this morning. On Saturday, traffic counts showed an increase of more than 131,000 vehicles; Friday saw an increase of 74,000 vehicles; Thursday had an additional 45,000 vehicles; and Wednesday saw an additional 30,000 vehicles.
• Travel reminders: As Wyoming is welcoming many travelers to the state to view the eclipse, we anticipate that traffic departing the state after the eclipse may be busier than usual. In an effort to help traffic flow smoothly, residents and travelers are asked to practice patience, observe posted speed limits and to be aware of other drivers. In addition, travelers are encouraged to stay in Wyoming and attend one of the festivals and events and explore nearby recreational offerings. They are also advised to keep in mind that there are great distances between some communities in Wyoming, so travelers are encouraged to keep gas tanks full as they travel home.
• Weather forecast: The National Weather Service is predicting great viewing for today's eclipse, with thin clouds expected in Fremont County and west Natrona County. Good viewing for the eclipse is expected throughout the state.
• Safety reminders, including eclipse glasses: It is important to wear specialty eclipse glasses when viewing the eclipse. For a full list of telescope and solar-filter companies that have been verified by an accredited testing laboratory to meet the ISO international safety standards for such products, visit NASA.gov.
