Andeavor awards $150,000 grant to Pinedale Elementary Science and Engineering (STEM)
by Sublette County School District #1
May 11, 2018
Representatives from Andeavor, a marketing, logistics and refining company, awarded Sublette County School District #1 a $150,000 grant to support the STEM Science and Engineering program for the upper elementary students, to be distributed over three years.
"Andeavor is committed to collaborating with our partners to create cleaner, safer, well-educated communities where we operate," said Brad Shafer, Government and Public Affairs Manager for Andeavor. "We are proud to support Sublette County School District #1 and help better prepare Wyoming’s future STEM workforce." During the Thank You event with Andeavor representatives, school officials, and STEM teacher Liz David, students from grades 3-5 demonstrated a variety of their projects from the science and engineering curriculum.
"We are very grateful to Andeavor for the generous grant to help maintain and foster our hands-on curriculum that provides the cornerstone for our district’s science and engineering education." said Mrs. David, Elementary Science/STEM teacher who applied for the grant. "Our program has been in place since 1986 with the primary goals to provide all students grades 3-5 with high quality science and engineering education that reaches beyond traditional elementary classroom sciences, and to develop a cornerstone of knowledge and skills that contributes to students’ success as they continue into our middle and high school Science/STEM programs."
"We are extremely excited to begin our partnership with an industry leader like Andeavor," said Superintendent Jay Harnack. "We understand the importance of STEM for our students in today’s world, and with this grant we will be able to further the work started by Mrs. David."
Mrs. David explained that she had become concerned about funding in light of the recent uncertainties of Wyoming’s education finances. "I did not want to see any losses to this program for our students. We needed a new funding partner, and Andeavor’s community goals include investing in STEM-related high quality educational programs. We are very fortunate to have their support for the next three years. Thanks to Andeavor’s commitment to supporting STEM education, our students in Pinedale will continue to have a strong program."
