Potential for elevated hourly ozone values in the UGRB - February 12, 2019
by Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality
February 12, 2019
As a result of forecast weather conditions, no 8-hour elevated ozone values are expected on Tuesday, February 12 in the Upper Green River Basin (UGRB). However, elevated hourly ozone values are possible on Tuesday, February 12 in the UGRB. An Ozone Action Day has not been issued for Tuesday, February 12.
Current information on ozone levels at the Air Quality Division’s monitoring stations at Daniel South, Pinedale, Boulder, Big Piney, and Juel Spring can be found at www.wyvisnet.com. The front page displays health effects colors to complement the measured 8-hour ozone values, to assist with health-based decisions. The Live Site page for each monitoring station displays all air quality and meteorological information, including the measured 1-hour and 8-hour ozone values.
During the Winter Ozone season (January-March), everyone should take actions to reduce ozone precursor emissions and ground-level ozone formation. Some actions that could be done to reduce ozone precursor emissions include: minimizing idling of vehicles and engines, not overfilling gas tanks, tightening fuel caps, deferring truck and equipment fueling to evening hours, and postponing construction activities.
Ozone is an air pollutant that can cause respiratory health effects especially to children, the elderly and people with existing respiratory conditions. People in these sensitive groups should limit strenuous or extended outdoor activities, especially in the afternoon and evening. More information on ozone and the health effects of ozone are available at the Wyoming Department of Health website, http://www.health.wyo.gov.
Please remember that current information on ozone levels at the AQD’s monitoring stations can be found at www.wyvisnet.com.
