Here are some news tidbits for history buffs:
Lander Trail – New Fork River Crossing Historical Park to reopen soon
For those with cabin fever looking for a place close by to get out before the high country opens up, the Sublette County Historical Society plans to reopen the gates at the Lander Trail – New Fork River Crossing Historical Park shortly. The park has been open all winter to walk-in traffic with parking by the entrance. The gates to the parking lot are closed during the winter when there is no plowing and to protect the parking lot surface while it is still soft. The park is a great early season place to go for a nice walk and free fishing access to the New Fork River. Dogs don’t need to be on leash, but owners please don’t let your pets chase wildlife. There are lots of deer and moose that also frequent the park. The river is still low right now, but in a couple of weeks it will begin to rise with spring melt water and will become dangerous during the high water season – watch your pets and small children near the water. The park offers over 100 acres to explore and a chance to see a small portion of pristine Lander Trail ruts. There is a one mile walking path and seven historical interpretive signs along the pathway. Feel free to go off-trail and explore all through the park to see nice examples of riparian and sagebrush bench, and cottonwood grove habitat. Museum of the Mountain Man opens May 1st
The Museum of the Mountain Man in Pinedale will open for the season on Wednesday, May 1st. The Museum is operated by the Sublette County Historical Society. They are located at 700 E Hennick St just south of the Pinedale Medical Clinic. The Museum will be open daily through the summer season from 9AM to 5PM through October. Admission is $10 for adults (age 13 and up), $8 for Senior Citizens, children 12 and under free. For more information call toll free 1-877-686-6266 or 307-367-4101. Group tours available.

Lincoln Highway brochure available at the Sweetwater County Historical Museum in Green River
For those who enjoy museum hopping during their area travels, here is news from the museum in Green River south of Pinedale:
A free informative color brochure about the original Lincoln Highway’s route through Green River to Little America is now available at the Sweetwater County Historical Museum in Green River.
The brochure, created and distributed by the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) details, with maps and photographs, the old route through Green River - southwest from the cemetery, past the Hotel Tomahawk and across the Green River on the Green River Wagon Bridge (the remains of which can still be seen today). From there, it ran along what is now the Peru Cutoff Road and over the Union Pacific Railroad tracks via the Peru Cutoff Road Bridge west of the city.
Stop by the museum, located at 3 Flaming Gorge Way, Green River, for your copy of the WYDOT brochure, and visit the gallery while you're there. Museum summer hours are now in effect: Monday through Saturday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. There is no charge for admission to the museum, which is closed on Sundays and major holidays.
