Pinedale to host Wyoming State Historical Society Annual Meeting Sept. 6-8

The Museum of the Mountain Man and Sublette County Historical Society will host the 66th Annual Meeting of the Wyoming State Historical Society Friday – Sunday, September 6-8th. Cost is $80 for members of the Wyoming State Historical Society and $90 for non-members, which includes meals. Registration deadline is August 31st.
Registration bags can be picked up at the front desk of the Museum of the Mountain Man, which will be open from 8AM to 8PM on Friday, Sept. 6th, and 8AM to 5PM on Saturday, Sept. 7th. For those who are registering last minute, registrations and checks can be dropped off at the Museum of the Mountain Man in Pinedale.
Special events for the conference include a Walking Tour of downtown Pinedale on Friday morning guided by local historian Ann Noble from 10AM to 11AM. Meet Ann in front of the Cowboy Shop in Pinedale at 10AM. Later Friday afternoon from 1-5PM, there will be a bus tour of the Big Sandy area with hosts Ann Noble and Jonita Sommers. Stops will include Fremont Butte, Buckskin Crossing, the historic Emerson Schoolhouse, and Sand Springs along the Lander Cutoff of the Oregon/California Trail.
A reception dinner will take place at the Museum of the Mountain Man in the outside Pavillion Friday evening beginning at 6PM. There will be a cash bar. Keynote speaker will be Ann Noble talking on "Wyoming Women Lead the Nation" on the 150th anniversary of Wyoming Women Suffrage (gaining the right to vote).
Saturday morning’s events include a general membership meeting from 9AM to 11AM followed by an awards luncheon from noon to 2:30PM in the outside Pavillion at the Museum. There will also include a book signing by local area authors after the luncheon. In the afternoon there will be several workshops available including one on grants available to historical societies, historic document preservation, historic preservation in Sublette County, and a guided tour of the Museum of the Mountain Man.
Saturday evening the conference will move out to the Sommerr Homestead Living History Museum for a social beginning at 5PM, an opportunity to tour the restored buildings on homestead, and then a dinner catered by Pitchfork Fondue. A cash bar will be available. Guest speaker for the dinner will be Clint Gilchrist, Executive Director of the Museum of the Mountain Man, talking on "Wyoming on Early Maps."
On Sunday morning there will be another opportunity to go on a guided tour of the Museum of the Mountain Man. Then participants are invited to visit area historic sites on self-guided tours as they travel home. Informational brochures on local area sites will be in the attendee bags. The Green River Valley Museum in Big Piney will be open from 10AM to noon for visitors headed that way.
The Wyoming State Historical Society began in 1953 and is made up of members from across Wyoming as well as other areas of the U.S. The Society is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to preserving and educating about Wyoming history.
