Tannerite Fire burning near Boulder Lake

Update Monday, August 19, 9:00PM: Mop-up is well underway on the Tannerite Fire. Although no large smoke plume looms on the horizon, plenty of heat still exists on the fire. Firefighters seek out these pockets of burning vegetation and use water and tools to put them out, thereby securing any threat to containment lines. Fire is now 35% contained.

Forest Service update, Monday, August 19, 2019, 12:25PM: Despite high winds and red flag conditions, crews made good progress on the Tannerite fire yesterday (Sunday, August 18) and no new growth was reported. The fire held within the retardant lines and firefighters focused on holding and securing those lines and knocking down active flare ups inside containment lines.
Western Wyoming Type 3 Incident Management Team, Jon Ziegler - Incident Commander, assumed control of the fire at seven o’clock this morning. An Incident Command Post (ICP) has been set up at the Burnt Lake Elk Feedgrounds.
Evacuations have been lifted for the Boulder Lake Estates, Boulder Lake Campground and trailhead. Those residents who choose to return home are still in the SET stage. The road closures for Boulder Lake have also been lifted. The Burnt lake Road above the Boulder Lake Dam road will remain closed.
The weather will be of concern to firefighters again today with the third straight day of red flag warning conditions of high temperatures, low single digit relative humidity, and strong westerly winds.
The fire is currently 1,340 acres with 20% contained. Over one hundred personnel are assigned to this fire.
The primary objective for this incident is to ensure the safety of firefighters and the public. Protection of structures and private property is also a key objective. Homes and other structures are threatened but as of this morning, no primary residences have been burned.
The Tannerite Fire started Saturday, Aug. 17 burning on multiple jurisdictions and is under unified command. The fire is located between Burnt and Boulder Lakes south of Pinedale, Wyoming. This human-caused fire is currently under investigation.

Update, Sunday, Aug. 18, 8:00PM: Sublette County Sheriff Office reports some evacuations lifted for Tannerite Fire.
The following evacuations have been lifted on the Tannerite Fire:
As of 8pm August 18th, the following evacuations have been lifted for the Tannerite Fire:
-Boulder Lake (County Road 23-125)
-Boulder Lake Country Estates
-Boulder Lake Campground
-Boulder Lake residents off of the Burnt Lake road BLM Road 5106
The Burnt lake Road above the Boulder Lake Dam road will remain closed. Those residents who choose to return home are still in the SET stage.

Update Sunday, Aug. 18, 2019, 6:30PM: We've posted some more pictures from Mindi Crabb with a view of the Tannerite Fire from Half Moon Mountain. Firefighters have knocked the smoke way down. The elk feedground structures are intact. No reported structure losses according to Sublette County Sheriff's Office. We also now have a fire perimeter map.

Tannerite Fire update from Bridger-Teton National Forest, Aug 18, 1:15PM: Size is estimated at 1340 acres, no primary residences burned
PINEDALE, WYOMING August 18, 2019 - The Tannerite Fire, burning near Boulder Lake south of Pinedale, started Saturday, Aug. 17 at 12:52 pm on land managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The fire is human caused and is under investigation at this time.
The primary objective for this incident is to ensure the safety of firefighters and the public. Protection of structures and private property is also a key objective. Homes and other structures are threatened but as of this morning, no primary residences have been burned.
A Western Wyoming Type 3 Incident Management Team is shadowing current leadership and will be assuming command of the fire by tomorrow morning. The fire has burned on multiple jurisdictions and is under unified command with the BLM as lead agency. Sublette County stood up an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) at the Sublette County Emergency Management office, 307-367-3378.
Current fire size is estimated to be 1,340 acres burning in sage, grass and timber.
Evacuations are in effect for the Boulder Lake Estates, Boulder Lake Campground, Burnt and Meadow Lake and associated trailheads. Red Cross has set up a shelter (at the LDS Church in Pinedale) for people with primary residences in the evacuation area, although there were no persons requiring shelter last night. No additional evacuations are foreseen.
Road closures are in place on the Boulder Lake and the Burnt Lake roads.
Resources fighting the fire include: 7 engines (both Type 4 and Type 6), 1 water tender, 2 Type 3 helicopters, 2 Type 1 helicopters, 1 Type 2 IA handcrew, 8 smokejumpers, 5 person fire module, 5 helitack crewmembers, air attack and fixed wing retardant tankers as needed.
Crews will be facing red flag conditions again today through Monday evening. High temperatures, low humidity, and strong winds will make control efforts challenging.

Sunday, Aug. 18, 8:45AM: Bridger-Teton National Forest Morning operational briefing on the Tannerite Fire: Crews will be facing red flag conditions again today. Additional engines and helicopters will arrive today to aid suppression efforts. The Incident Commander is flying the fire this morning to get GIS information for more accurate acreage and mapping. Saturday, 10:10PM: From the Bridger-Teton National Forest: The fire received multiple retardant drops from the Small Engine Air Tankers (SEATs) and VLAT (Very Large Air Tanker) to protect structures on the Elk Feedgrounds near Burnt Lake as well as private residences near Boulder Lake. A load of smokejumper out of Pocatello were dropped on the fire to assist current ground resources. Around 5PM the fire burned from BLM onto US Forest Service land. Air attack estimated the fire to be approximately 500 acres. A Type 3 Incident Management Team has been ordered for tomorrow.

Saturday, 9:00PM: The Red Cross has not had any evacuees show up to the shelter set up at the LDS Church as of 8:45PM. Their plan is to close the shelter for the night at 9:30PM and those needing shelter after that time are to contact the Wyoming Red Cross Phone number 1-307-222-8272 for Shelter needs overnight.

Saturday, 5:30PM Update: From Bridger-Teton National Forest, tetonfires.com: Boulder Lake Estates is under evacuation stage GO. In addition, Boulder Lake, Burnt Lake, and Meadow Lake campgrounds, Timico trailhead, and dispersed campers are also being evacuated. Anyone camping or recreating in the area should leave immediately. Two Small Engine Air Tankers (SEATs) are now over the fire to aid in control efforts. The Tannerite fire is burning south of Pinedale near Boulder Lake on BLM land between Burnt and Boulder lakes, near the elk feedground. Multiple resources including engines from Sublette County, BLM, and Forest Service, as well as one Type 3 helicopter from Teton Interagency Fire, are actively engaged in fighting this fire. Additional resources are on order.
