Obituary: Mary W. Klarén November 9, 1940 - October 9, 2019
On Wednesday, October 9th, 2019, we lost our dear Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend, Mary W. Klarén. She passed away with her oldest son David beside her, and her Grandson Palmer and Granddaughter Kirsten there moments later to hold her hand and say goodbye. While this was a shock to us all, we know that she has gone home and that she is was her parents and her brother and many others that have gone before her, that will be rejoicing and welcoming her with open arms.
Mary was born on November 9th, 1940 in Bertrand, Nebraska. She was the oldest of 5 children and spent her childhood living and working on their farm and helping to raise her younger siblings Liz, Stan, David and Katherine. She attended grade school in a small one-room schoolhouse. She then continued her high school education in Bertrand, where she graduated in 1958. After graduation she moved to the Pinedale, Wyoming area for the summer to work with her sister Liz. Mary worked for Norm and Mim Barlow at the Bar Cross Ranch in Cora, Wyoming. Later her whole family joined her, moving to Pinedale also. In the fall of 1962, she met and fell in love with Bob Klarén. They were married on May 16th, 1964. They had 3 boys together; David, Michael and Brian. Unfortunately, after 36 years of marriage Mary and Bob divorced, but she continued on, as was her way, despite her sadness.
In 1975, Mary went to work at Faler's General Store in Pinedale and worked there for the next 30+ years. She loved her work and worked very hard at everything she did her whole life. She always had a smile on her face and took time to visit with the customers. Mary loved everyone and loved being out among the community, visiting, helping and sharing with all those she came in contact with. When Faler's was sold, she was heartbroken, but being the trooper that she was, she stayed working at Ridley’s, the new store. After a year she continued her working career at Obo's Market and Deli. After leaving Obo’s, Mary worked at Boondock’s Pizza in the kitchen. She spent her last working days at Rendezvous Pointe, working for Sue Eversull who loving cared for her.
Mary leaves behind her 3 boys (as she always loved to call them) David K. Klarén, Michael D. Klarén (Jennifer) and Brian R. Klarén (Khrishna) as well as 4 grandchildren; Palmer D. Klarén, Kirsten D. Klarén and Vivien D. Klarén (children of Michael and Jennifer) and Hunter B. Klarén (son of Brian and Khrishna). She also leaves behind her 2 sisters Liz (Rollie) Howey and Katherine Sandsness, her brother David Weniger, and nieces and nephews Melanie Howey, and Doyle and Dana Sandsness. Her younger brother Stan proceeded her in death in1986 and her parents Edna (1973) and Howard (1976).
Mary has always been a farm girl at heart. She loved to be outside working in her garden, or her yard, or just walking from place to place cleaning up as she went. She loved animals and had horses and sheep around her house as well as a few cows that she kept a close eye on at the ranch. Mary also enjoyed cooking and baking for her family, and Oh... she made the best apple, pumpkin and rhubarb pies. Mary loved her family very much and always remembered to call on everyone's special days. She always had a "little something", as she called it, for birthdays and holidays. She was a loving kind person who tried her hardest every day to be the best person she could. Mary was one of the hardest working people we know. She will be greatly missed by us all.
We will have a memorial service on Wednesday the 16th of October, 2019, at 11:00 a.m., at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Pinedale, Wyoming. It will be followed by a graveside service and a luncheon back at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Anyone who would like to come say goodbye to Mary is welcome to attend.
