The Wyoming Cowboys took on the Georgia State Panthers on Tuesday, December 31st, New Year’s Eve Day at the Arizona Bowl in Tucson. The final score of the exciting game was Wyoming Cowboys 38, Georgia State Panthers 17.
It was a surprise to see the third string freshman quarterback Levi Williams put in, his first career start with this game. But the seemingly risky gamble by head coach Craig Bohl paid off. Williams had four touchdowns in the game. His three touchdown passes were the most in a game since Josh Allen had three in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl in 2017. He threw for 234 yards and also ran for 53 yards and a touchdown.
Redshirt sophomore running back Xazavian Valladay scored two touchdowns and had a career-best 295 total yards of offense. Valladay was named the Offensive MVP. He finishes the season with a Mountain West-leading 1,265 rushing yards, becoming the first Wyoming player to lead the conference in total rushing yards.
Senior safety Alijah Halliburton earned Defensive MVP honors.
