5.7 earthquake shakes Salt Lake City area March 18

A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck Magna, Utah at 7:09AM Wednesday morning, March 18th, shaking homes from Logan down to Utah County. A strong aftershock was felt later in the day a little after 1PM, registering 4.6 magnitude.
There have been some damage and power outage reports, but no serious injuries. The earthquake caused damage to downtown buildings and even the Salt Lake Temple, where the Angel Moroni statue lost its trumpet. Beyond power outages, some reported damages to their homes and businesses as pictures fell off walls, dishes out of cupboards and products off of the shelves. Some buildings downtown lost facade bricks.
Salt Lake City and Salt Lake County declared earthquake related emergencies, giving them access to federal funds.
It was the state’s largest since a 1992 earthquake in St. George. The last Salt Lake County earthquake of at least a magnitude 5 was in 1962.
