The Sublette County Commissioners met on Tuesday, March 10th to make the selection for appointment of the person to fill the vacant position of Sublette County Assessor. The Sublette County Republican Central Committee solicited interested people after the position became open when Jeness Saxton resigned earlier in the year. Three people were selected by the Republican Committee on Saturday, March 7th, to put to the Commissioners: John Paravicini, Jesse Lake and Nancy Feck. On Monday, one day before the Commissioners were to meet, Lake and Feck withdrew their names from consideration.
The full Commission met with Paravicini in Executive Session in a Special Meeting on Tuesday morning. After coming back into regular session, Commissioner Doug Vickrey made a motion to appoint John Paravicini to fill the position as Sublette County Assessor. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Mack Rawhouser. All voted aye, with the exception of Commissioner Tom Noble, stating he abstained due to being a cousin relation to Paravicini. Shortly after the selection was made, Judge Curt Haws came into the room and performed a swearing-in ceremony.
Commissioner Burnett said, "We are pleased to have John Paravicini as our Assessor." John has worked in the Sublette County Assessor’s office for more than sixteen years. Commissioner Doug Vickrey noted that they felt he was the most qualified candidate. Paravicini will serve until the November election when the position will come up for vote. Paravicini indicated he planned to run on the ballot in the November election.
Paravicini said, "I greatly appreciate the confidence the Board of County Commissioners has given me and I will continue to strive to the best of my ability to serve the taxpayers of Sublette County. I encourage anyone who has questions about their taxes to come into the office – our door is always open. I want to thank Jeness Saxton, my coworkers, my wife, and my family for their support."
