The COVID-19 concerns are genuine, and recommendations on social distancing, self-quarantining, and canceling large group gatherings make common sense. But the economic consequences over the long term could be devastating to local small businesses. Either by government regulation, or customers obediently limiting their social exposure, the drop in foot traffic is already causing a serious hit to local businesses. As the scale-down is projected to extend for over several weeks, and with segments being forced by government to close their doors, some businesses ultimately will need to reluctantly consider staffing cutbacks and considering wage cuts in order to survive.
Here are some tips and suggestions you can use to support your local business community: Shop Local The reduction in foot traffic is devastating to local small businesses. If you need something, but are reluctant to go into a store right now even if you are well, consider shopping by phone. Call your local business and see if you can place an order by phone or if they have an online shopping option. Pick-up and delivery can be worked out for your specific needs and to adhere to social distancing guidelines. Businesses are still getting deliveries and can often accommodate special orders if you’re willing to wait a day or two for it to come in. Your patronage will be greatly appreciated.
Ask about Take Out and Delivery So far, Sublette County hasn’t seen a restriction on restaurants, but some neighboring counties including Teton County and the City of Jackson have already forced local restaurants and cafes to shut their doors to dine-in patrons. If you don’t want to risk the group dining setting in a restaurant that is still open in Sublette County, ask them about take-out and any delivery options.
Tip generously If you can afford to, think about including a generous tip with your purchase for the extra effort being put into serving you or delivering something to you during the shut-down. It will be greatly appreciated and will help with good will.
Buy a Gift Card/s Now might be a good time to think ahead for a thank you gift for a special someone or birthday gift for a loved one. How about purchasing a gift card from a local restaurant or their favorite shop? That way the business gets their cash today and the recipient can use it later at their convenience.
Other ways to help or get help There are lots of people and organization poised ready and waiting to help anyone in need in Sublette County. If you need something, pass along your request. The Chamber of Commerce, KPIN 101.1 FM Radio, Sublette For Sale community on Facebook, Travis Bingham at the Sublette County Sheriff’s Office, local social services organizations, the Pinedale Lions Club, local churches and youth organizations, etc. have connections to get you to resources that can help you with what you need. Just ask.
