Scam Alert
Caller demands money for warrants
by Sublette County Sheriff's Office
April 23, 2020
April 23rd 2020: Sublette County Dispatch has been receiving calls from citizens about a new scam.
The scammers are calling citizens posing as a Sgt Todd Young with our office demanding money for a "FTA" or failure to appear.
The Sublette County Sheriff’s Office Warrant team does call people with active warrants that are unpaid. However, we always direct the person to the appropriate court to handle the matter with them. We will never ask for money directly as the Sheriff’s Office.
This scammer has been reported to have a southern accent and may call from a number out of Lusk 307-216-3826. One citizen brought up the out-of-area phone number and the scammer then spoofed his number to match our 307-367-4378 number and tried again.
Be very careful especially during the pandemic scams are at an all-time high! Again, we will never solicit money from citizens, if you get a call you like this you can always verify a Deputies Identity with our office by calling in if you are unsure if the call is legitimate.
