Surprise! You’re Homeschooling!
April 6, 2020

Many parents are suddenly in the position of educating their kids at home. This can seem daunting or even overwhelming. But lots of parents homeschool their kids and there are many, many resources available to help parents create learning adventures that are both engaging to the child and meet age-appropriate educational learning objectives.

Below are some tips and resources from the Sublette County Libraries in Pinedale and Big Piney:

Storytime Live on Facebook
Wednesday at 10:15 am & 11 am (Pinedale)
Thursday at 10:30 am (Big Piney)

Your kids can still be a part of Storytime... on Facebook! Pinedale Library's Ms. Michelle hosts Baby and Me on Wednesday at 10:15 am and Preschool Storytime at 11 am. Big Piney Library's Ms. Genavieve hosts Storytime on Thursday at 10:30 am. Videos will also be accessible later from our website's Pinedale Kids and Big Piney Kids pages.

Afternoon Craft videos for kids
Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 1 pm

Our Afternoon Crafts for elementary school aged kids debuted two weeks ago on the Big Piney Library Facebook page, and the kids have done a great job! Ms. Genavieve will post a book and craft video for K - 2nd grade kids on Tuesday at 1 pm, and a book and craft video for 3rd - 5th grade kids on Wednesday at 1 pm. See them on the Big Piney Facebook page, Instagram page, or on our website.

Choose Your Own Adventure: Fridays at 1 pm

Our craft videos for elementary school kids have been a hit but we don't want to leave the teens out. Starting this week, Ms. Liz from the Pinedale Library will offer a craft video on Facebook Mondays at 1 pm and a Choose Your Own Adventure video on Fridays at 1 pm. Also, it's National Poetry Month! Kids in grades 5-12 can submit poems in our Young Adult Poetry Challenge all month for a chance to win a $15 Amazon gift card.

Storytime for the Wyomingite
Land of Wolves reading by author Craig Johnson

We enjoyed hosting Wyoming author Craig Johnson's visit to Pinedale, Daniel and Big Piney back in 2014 as part of his Spirit of Steamboat tour with One Book Wyoming. Now you can experience him reading an excerpt from his September 2019 release Land of Wolves from the back of his pickup in Ucross, Wyoming.

We're Going on a Bear Hunt!
All across Sublette County
Now, for as long as they're needed!

Let's continue to spread some cheer across Sublette County during this time of social distancing! Place a teddy bear in your window for others to spot, and take a walk or drive to find some bears yourself! The Bear Hunt is not just for children, it's for everyone across Sublette County! Don't have a teddy bear? Any stuffed animal is welcome.

Free WiFi available at the Libraries
The libraries may be temporarily closed, but free unlimited WiFi remains available outside both the Pinedale Library and the Big Piney Library, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Simply park your car outside the building or if it's a nice day, relax on one of our outdoor benches.

Wyoming Counts - Census 2020
The 2020 Census is open for response and currently, Wyoming is almost 10% below the national self-response rate with just 32.1% of residents having submitted their census information. There is plenty of time to get these numbers up... Let's do this Sublette County!
