First herd of 2020 into the Upper Green
May 6, 2020
Rob Tolley went out to ski early Saturday morning, May 2nd in the Upper Green to take advantage of the best hard snow conditions before things warm up. He started about 6 am and went about nine miles up on the west side of the Green River, above Tosi Creek and back. He didn’t see any antelope tracks on the way up.
"The first antelope herd to come through the upper bottleneck came in behind me. They also seem to know to travel early when the snow is hard. A herd of about 40." He saw them above the Tosi Creek Bridge, but didn’t get any good pictures of them. He took these photos of their tracks on his way back down. Their tracks are over the top of his.
He said there probably is enough forage showing up now for them at Tosi Creek level in the Upper Green. This was the first herd of the season to pass into the Upper Green area. The animals have been moving through the Trappers Point Wildlife Overpass since mid-April, moving north with the snowmelt and grass green-up.
