Wearing is Caring: Sublette County comes together on cloth face coverings
by Sublette COVID-19 Response Group Public Information Team
May 7, 2020

Dozens of Sublette County women have donated time, fabric and materials to sew more than 2,000 cloth face masks to protect employees in essential businesses in the county, including staff at the medical clinics, physical therapy and senior center facilities, pharmacies, grocery stores, post offices, and school lunch workers. These seamstresses continue to support fellow citizens by crafting masks to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the county.

People can infect others with the virus that causes COVID-19 before showing symptoms, so the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.

The Southwest Wyoming Senior Citizens Center in Marbleton is happy to accept donations for the mask-sewing effort in that portion of the county. Checks can be mailed P.O. Box 33 in Big Piney, WY 83113.

To support their efforts, the informal Pinedale-based sewing group is asking for a donation of $10 per mask that will be distributed to local charities. The Pinedale Lions Club has generously offered to collect and distribute the donations. Please write "masks" in the memo on your check payable to Pinedale Lions Club, P.O. Box 508, Pinedale, WY 82941. Masks are available at Office Outlet locations in Pinedale and Big Piney.

We invite residents to join in our "Wearing is Caring" campaign by posting mask-wearing selfies on social media. You can show you care, and can protect your neighbors and family, by wearing a cloth face covering while out in public. If you’d like, add a sign telling us who you are wearing the face covering to protect. We’ll join in by adding our own #WearingIsCaring posts on the Sublette COVID-19 Response Group Facebook page (@SubletteCovid), so follow our page to check out the Sublette County fashions.

Face coverings can be made from items that you already have at home, such as a scarf, bandana, buff, or can even be made from an old t-shirt! We’ve posted some examples and instructions on our Facebook page, so have a look for ideas. Coverings only need to be worn inside public settings where social distancing measures are difficult to maintain, not in your vehicle or outside in wide open spaces. Cloth face coverings should not be placed on young children under age 2, anyone who has trouble breathing, or is unconscious, incapacitated, or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance.
