Escaping into the Winds
August 15, 2020
Hank Ruland took his drone up to Elkhart Park trailhead on Friday, August 14th. Elkhart Park is a major hiking access into the middle part of the western side of the Wind River Mountain Range and Bridger Wilderness. "Wow, never saw that many cars up there except for when the eclipse happened 3 years ago," he commented. Not sure if people are escaping coronavirus, tired of being cooped up for months due to quarantines, finding relief from the heat at lower elevations, or just enjoying some recreation time in the beautiful mountains of Wyoming. Maybe a combination of all of those. Judging by the license plates, people from all over the U.S. are enjoying some much-needed vacation time in the great outdoors.
On Sunday, August 16th Hank went up to Big Sandy trailhead on the southern end of the Winds. He reported the parking lot was full and over 300 cars overflowing parked along the sides of the road.
