Welcome Back! Tomorrow our schools reopen with in-person instruction for the first time in almost six months. If you've been following the news, you know that some of the schools and universities who have reopened with face-to-face instruction earlier this year have experienced a spike in COVID-19 cases that resulted in a return to virtual learning.
I know that our families want our schools to remain open for in-person instruction this year, and we share that goal. If we are to achieve that objective, it's going to require a concerted and collective effort from both the district and our families.
If at some point we experience a positive test for a student or staff, County Health will conduct contact tracing to find out who has been in close contact with that person. Those in close contact will be required to quarantine. The degree to which our classrooms or schools will be required to close will ultimately depend on how many people are required to quarantine in each of these instances, which is a function of the commitment each of us makes to following the district's safety and wellness practices.
This is literally a case of each person making a difference every day by adhering to the following:
1. Parents and staff members: conduct a health screening of yourself and/or your student(s) prior to sending them to school.
2. If you are sick or symptomatic, stay home.
3. Clean your hands often, either with soap and water for 20 seconds or a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
4. Cover your mouth and nose with a mask when around others. Wear a mask as when required, and beyond that, as often as possible.
5. Put distance between yourself and other people (at least 6 feet).
6. Follow the district's policy on returning to school or work.
Determined people working together can do anything. Let's do what it takes to keep our schools both safe and open!
