Rain helps firefighting efforts on the Shoal Creek Fire
by Bridger-Teton National Forest
September 1, 2020
BONDURANT, WYOMING, September 1, 2020 – Cooler temperatures and precipitation helped firefighting efforts on the Shoal Creek Fire yesterday. No growth has occurred since the day the fire was first discovered on Sunday, August 30. Today (Tuesday, Sept. 1), Teton Interagency Fire, Sublette County Unified Fire, and the Pioneer Peak Interagency Hotshot Crew will perform mop up operations and finish securing fire line. Discovery Date: August 30, 2020 Cause: Under Investigation Location: Big Piney Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest near Shoal Creek drainage in Hoback Canyon, near the 2016 Cliff Creek Fire burn scar. Current Resources: 1 engine, a 20-person Interagency Hotshot crew, and various management personnel from Teton Interagency Fire and Sublette County Unified Fire. Size: 25 acres Fuel: Light timber, grass, and sage The perimeter of the Shoal Creek Fire is burning fully within the 2016 Cliff Creek burn scar. Due to this burn scar and yesterday’s precipitation and cooler weather, the potential for growth is minimal. In addition, a 20-person Interagency Hot Shot crew arrived yesterday to help support firefighting efforts. The cause of the Shoal Creek Fire is under investigation. There are currently no closures in place related to the fire. Since the fire has not grown in two days and the area has received ample precipitation, this will be the final update on the Shoal Creek Fire unless conditions change significantly. Restrictions: The Bridger-Teton National Forest has implemented Stage 1 Fire Restrictions. These restrictions allow fires only in developed campgrounds and picnic areas in approved structures along with the Teton and Gros Ventre Wilderness. Please note that fires are prohibited in the Bridger Wilderness and all dispersed campsites under this order. Visit the Teton Interagency Fire website at www.tetonfires.com to learn about fire safety and what fire regulations may be in place. To report a fire or smoke in the area, please contact Teton Interagency Dispatch Center at 307-739-3630.
