The Emerson Schoolhouse is a historic one-room schoolhouse used in the early to mid-1900s in the Boulder area serving the rural ranching community. It has been restored by Claire Faler and was recently donated to the Sublette County Historical Society to be used to interpret the school experience in rural Wyoming.
Recently, local youth Cody Sims and Gage Hyde got to go on a field trip out to the schoolhouse to get a water sample from the well pump in order to have the water tested to see if it is potable (safe to drink). They then took the water to the Town of Pinedale water quality testing laboratory for testing. The two boys are homeschooling this term due to COVID-19 flu pandemic uncertainty. The water sampling field trip was part of their science, health and history studies. The water test came back clean and safe to drink.
Soon, the Sublette County Historical Society plan to make the schoolhouse available for small groups to visit and even experience having a class in the historic building. Anyone who would like more information about visiting the schoolhouse can call the Museum of the Mountain Man at 307-367-4101.
