Hoback Ranches On Friday, April 2, 2021 at approximately 3:40 AM, Sublette County Unified Fire (SCUF) was dispatched to the report of a potential fire in a chimney at a residence on Chippewaugh Lane.

SCUF units from Stations 1, 2, 3 and 5 responded to the call. SCUF fire fighters that live in the area, realizing that access to the residence was limited to snow machines and tracked off-road vehicles, were first on scene, responding directly to the incident scene to provide for occupant safety while attempting to determine the extent of the fire with the resources they had on hand.

Fire apparatus from other SCUF battalions were staged at a nearby parking lot while firefighters continued utilizing snow machines and tracked off-road vehicles to assist the occupants with evacuating to a safe area and transportation to Sublette County EMS units staged nearby to provide for patient and responder care. Sublette County Emergency Management, Search and Rescue, and Road and Bridge Departments all assisted with providing a snow cat for better patient care and working to clear the road of snow and ice to the residence for better access for emergency responders.

Two of the six building occupants were transported to St. John’s hospital for treatment and observation resulting from smoke inhalation but were released shortly after admission. There were no injuries reported with any of the responders.

The cause was determined to be an accidental electrical fire originating within a wall of the home. The fire spread through the wall to the rest of the home causing heavy smoke conditions that set off the smoke detector system that ultimately alerted the occupants of the fire. This notification was critical for the occupants to vacate the home in a timely manner. While the home and one other adjacent outbuilding was ultimately lost to the fire, all occupants were safe and accounted for thanks to the smoke alarm activation and timely response by all parties.

Monday, April 5, at approximately 3:30 AM, Sublette County Unified Fire was paged out to a structure fire in progress at 601 Binning Ranch Road.

Multiple SCUF battalions were paged to assist with suppression activities which included setting up a water supply shuttle operation due to the property distance from any hydrants. The fire was reported by an on-duty Sublette County Sherriff’s deputy who located the fire after seeing the glow off in the distance. The fire was found to be at an unoccupied bunk house. Defensive fire tactics were used due to the progression of the fire in the structure to protect other nearby exposures. Ultimately the fire was contained to the perimeter of the bunkhouse.

At the time of this release, the cause of the fire is still undetermined.
