SweetwaterNow.com reports that for the first time since mid-August, the COVID-19 transmission rate has moved from high to moderate in Sweetwater County. Sweetwater is the neighboring county located to the south of Pinedale/Sublette County and includes Rock Springs and Green River, along the I-80 corridor. They have a population over 42,000 compared to 9,000+ in Sublette County. Sweetwater County has had 91 virus-related deaths over the past two years since the pandemic began compared to 20 in Sublette County.

The troubling news is that Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County (MHSC) continues to operate at critical levels due to an increasing nursing shortage. The hospital has hired more nurses, however they will not finish orientation rotations until January. MHSC continues to seek help from traveling nurses. Since Sublette County doesn’t have a hospital, emergency cases are sent to the hospitals in neighboring areas, and their capacities have a direct impact on health care availability for ill people in Sublette County.
