High Elevation Archaeology Reconnaissance Survey in the Wind River Mountains

There will be a meeting of the Upper Green River Basin Chapter of the Wyoming Archaeological Society (WAS) on Tuesday, May 17th starting at 6:30PM at the Museum of the Mountain Man in Pinedale. There will be a short business meeting, then a talk by our special guest speaker. The public is welcome to attend – bring a friend! A Zoom link will be available to view this program. Special guest speaker will be Dave Vlcek, Bonneville Archaeology, Pinedale, Wyoming
The presentation will be: "High Elevation Archaeology Reconnaissance Survey in the Wind River Mountains" by Dave Vlcek
Dave Vlcek, retired local archaeologist, will give a presentation on a reconnaissance survey he completed in the northern Wind River Range above the Green River Lakes. Several of the sites and locales are above timberline at elevations well above 11,000 ft. Prehistoric campsites, hunting locales, steatite and lithic quarrying locations will also be discussed. There will be a Q&A session after the talk.
About the Presenter: Since 2011, Mr. Vlcek is Owner and Principal Investigator of Bonneville Archaeology, a nonprofit research firm. Mr. Vlcek has conducted archaeological research predominantly in the Wind River Wilderness under Forest Service permit. He worked 30 years as a BLM archaeologist in Rock Springs, Kemmerer and Pinedale, Wyoming. He formed his own private archaeology consulting firm after retiring from the BLM.
