Wrangle Hunger Snack Club helps families and teachers

PINEDALE, WYOMING – Families in Sublette County on average spend $250 per elementary school child for classroom snacks each school year. Teachers will also spend an average of $50-$100 every year of personal money to help students who are without snacks.
The Pinedale Community Food Basket (PCFB) has been able to decrease this burden on families and teachers due in part to grants received in January 2024 from the Wyoming Community Foundation and Farm Credit Services of America. These grants will continue to fund the program throughout the 2024- 2025 school year.
Pinedale Community Food Basket is a 501 (c)3 nonprofit organization serving Sublette County and LaBarge with supplementary food services. Pinedale Community Food Basket’s mission is to assist families with the burdens of food expenses. All funds received will help us serve struggling families more effectively.
Kari Bousman, PCFB Food Manager, said, "This snack program has helped 30 families in Pinedale and Big Piney elementary schools. These families can now shift their focus on to other important issues affecting their family." A Pinedale 3rd grader said, "I like the snack bags because my mom can spend her money on bills and not on me."
In addition, teachers have also noticed improvements in student behavior within the classroom. The Wrangle Hunger snack program has been an outstanding benefit for our schools in helping families one snack bag at a time.
