Rendezvous - Friday at the Museum

Rendezvous Friday was a busy day at the Museum with lots of visitors and new presentors and events.
Fred Gowans, historian in residence, guided an all day bus tour to Pierre’s Hole on Friday after a introduction lecture on Thursday evening. He promised a special day. After 30 years of teaching about the Indian battle of the 1832 Rendezvous, Fred think he has finally got it right and knows where the fight took place.
At his first year at the Green River Rendezvous, Dr. Gage Skinner brought his Field Museum of the Fur Trade to display. Dr. Skinner has spent 30 years collecting artifacts from the fur trade era of the 1820s – 1840s. Dr. Skinner gave several interesting talks on his artifacts and informed the crowd that he has donated most of his collection to the Museum of the Mountain Man for permanent display.
Michael Terry has been coming to the Green River Rendezvous for about 10 years and is always a crowd favorite. He gave two discussions on the horse in Plains Indian culture and the buffalo hide tipi.
Dan Frewin gave a talk on Jim Bridger. Jim is one of the most well known mountain man, but after decades of study, researchers still really don’t know what he was really like. Dan has studied and paralleled his life for most of his life and told the audiance what is know about Jim bridge and what he believes the man was like.
The day was rounded out with children activities by Lapita Frewin, demonstrations by the American Mountain Men, fur trade artwork by artist in residence Richard Luce, Women Artists of the West quick draw, buffalo burger lunch & dinner and finished off with the Buckskinner’s Ball.
