Community Design Workshops
Big Piney April 14, Pinedale April 16
April 16, 2005

The Sublette County Commissioners are sponsoring two free Community Design Workshops in Big Piney and Pinedale on April 14th and April 16th. The workshops will be conducted by land use planners from the Sonoran Institute to address how subdivision design principles can allow the county and its communities accommodate new growth while preserving the characteristics that make Sublette County a special place. The workshop has been designed to apply to small town and rural settings and incorporate hands-on exercises in which participants will be engaged in the design of future growth areas.

Sublette County grew by 22% in the 1990s and is projected to grow considerably more in the next ten years, according to the workshop flyer. "As Sublette County grows, so does the need for new residential areas that conserve the county’s ranchlands and wildlife habitat, provide a variety of housing affordability options, and respect the area’s historic character, while doing so with a minimum of government regulation."

Last fall, the Sublette County Commissioners asked the Sonoran Institute to perform a growth analysis for the county. This analysis projects the amount and location of new growth in the county for the next ten years. The Commissioners asked the Sonoran Institute to work with the Sublette County Planning and Zoning Commission to develop these workshops. They will address Sublette County growth issues, the county Comprehensive Plan vision and goals

The workshop in Big Piney will be held on Thursday, April 14th, from 6-9 pm at the Big Piney Library. The workshop in Pinedale will be held on Saturday, April 16th, from 8:30 am to 1 pm at the Sublette County Library in Pinedale. Sign in begins 30 minutes prior to the start of the workshop. The format of the workshops include a presentation and review, then breaking into small groups to discuss growth and community development and do site plan exercises. Meals will be provided at no charge. Participants are asked to RSVP to the Sublette County Planning Department: 307-367-4375.
