Pinedale Elections May 2-Sample Ballot
Who's running? Should the Town sell Fremont Lake water rights for instream flow for Pine Creek?
April 26, 2006

In addition to voting in new council positions on May 2nd, Pinedale voters will be asked to make public comment on whether or not the Town of Pinedale should sell a portion of their Fremont Lake water storage rights in order to maintain instream flows in Pine Creek.

In 2004, the Town considered entering into an agreement with the Wyoming Water Development Commission to use some of their water rights to keep water in Pine Creek to maintain fisheries between Fremont Lake Dam and the New Fork River. The process was put on hold until public input could be acquired. Below is the exact wording as it will appear on the Town of Pinedale official ballot.

Request for Non-Binding Public Comment
In 2004 the Town of Pinedale considered entering into an agreement with the Wyoming Water Development Commission whereby certain Town water storage rights in Fremont Lake would be sold to the Wyoming Water Development Commission for use in maintaining instream flows in Pine Creek for the purpose of maintaining new or existing fisheries between Fremont Lake Dam and the confluence of Pine Creek and the New Fork River. The sale price for the water storage rights was to be $10.00. The Town was to retain an option to repurchase the concerned water storage rights at any time for the sum of $10.00 at its sole discretion. This process was put on hold until public input could be acquired at the 2006 Town election.

The Town Council of the Town of Pinedale now requests your input in regard to this matter. This is a request for public comment and is not binding on the Town Council.

Should the Town of Pinedale enter into an agreement with the Wyoming Water Development Commission providing for the sale of water storage rights to the Wyoming Water Development Commission for use as instream flow in Pine Creek and retaining an option for repurchasing said water storage rights to the Town at the town’s sole discretion?
