Pinedale youths in Junior Duck Stamp Contest
Lisanne Fear and Devan LaMere get top honors
May 1, 2006

Two Pinedale youths came away with top honors in the 2006 Federal Junior Duck Stamp contest, a national art competition for students grades K-12.

Thirteen-year-old Lisanne Fear received the 2006 Best of Snow award for her oil painting, This Ruddy is no Duddy. Her painting depicts a striking close up portrait of a Ruddy duck's head. Lisanne received an Honorable Mention award for this painting in the national Jr. Duck Stamp competition.

Devan LaMere, a nine-year-old student from Pinedale, won the 2006 Betty Nelson Artistic Promise Award for the best art in the youngest age group. The Betty Nelson Artistic Promise Award was established six years ago to recognize the artistic accomplishment of students in the K-3 age group and to honor the late Betty Nelson, a generous supporter of the Junior Duck Stamp program.

On Saturday, May 6, 2006 through Monday, September 4, 2006 the National Museum of Wildlife Art will display the winning entries in the 2006 Wyoming Federal Junior Duck Stamp Contest.

For the 12th consecutive year, the NMWA serves as the Wyoming host for the Federal Junior Duck Stamp Contest, a national art competition for students grades K-12. The Federal Junior Duck Stamp Conservation and Design program was developed in 1990 to teach the importance of wetland conservation and to increase awareness of our nation's resources.

The Federal Junior Duck Stamp Exhibition will showcase the top 36 ribbon winners out of 735 total Wyoming entries. In addition to the top winners on exhibit, 64 Honorable Mention ribbons were awarded in each of the four age groups (grades K-3, 4-6, 7-9, and 10-12).

The Jr. Duck Stamp exhibit will be traveling in 2006 to other locations around the state after it closes at the National Museum of Wildlife Art. The NMWA will be offering reproductions of the top-winning art on note cards.

The first, second, and third place contest winners will be honored at a dinner and awards ceremony at the National Museum of Wildlife Art on Saturday July 22nd.
