Accidents on US Hwy 191 claim two lives
Texas woman and Rock Springs man killed in separate crashes
July 24, 2006

Two people were killed in separate accidents on US Highway 191 between Pinedale and Rock Springs over the past few days.

Texas woman killed on July 21
On Friday, July 21, a woman from Texas was killed when the car she was riding in failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection of Hwy 191 and WYO 28 near Farson and their vehicle was struck broadside.

According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, Angela G. Beyer, 55, of Sulpher Springs, Texas, was riding in a Toyota Camry being driven by Donna Spencer, age 54 of Mexia, Texas. Around 1:44 pm on Friday, Spencer failed to stop for the stop sign at the intersection of the two highways. The Spencer vehicle was westbound on WYO 28. This is a through intersection for traffic traveling on US Highway 191 and vehicles traveling north and south do not have to stop at the junction.

The Spencer vehicle was hit on the passenger side by a pickup truck driven by Eden resident, Mike Schall, 43, of Eden, who was southbound on US 191. Both vehicles then came to rest on the southwest side of the intersection.

The roadway was dry and weather conditions were clear. The airbags in the Spencer vehicle did deploy upon impact. Everyone involved was wearing seatbelts. Beyer died at the scene. Spencer was hospitalized at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County in Rock Springs. Schall was uninjured. Spencer has been cited for failure to stop at a stop sign. Schall was cited for no valid registration on his vehicle.

Crash kills Rock Springs man July 23
In a different accident on Sunday, July 23, a 23-year old man from Rock Springs was killed in a crash about 16 miles north of Rock Springs.

Brian J. Williams, of Rock Springs, was driving a pickup truck southbound on US 191. For reasons completely unknown, his vehicle crossed the center line going completely into the northbound lane. It then went off the east side of the roadway at which time Williams overcorrected his steering. This maneuver brought the vehicle back onto the roadway where the vehicle collided head-on with a Haliburton Kenworth truck tractor combination being driven by Jonathan H. Croitz, 27, of Rock Springs. Croitz was driving a combination unit of which the trailer was an oil field cementer/pump.

Williams died at the scene. Croitz was uninjured. A passenger in the Croitz vehicle, 49-year old Donald D. Chacon from Salt Lake City, Utah, was treated and released for injuries he sustained in the crash. The roadways were dry and the weather was clear at the time of the accident. All parties involved were wearing seatbelts. The airbags did deploy in the Williams vehicle.
