The Pinedale Wranglers hosted their cross-county rivals the Big Piney Punchers for a homecoming football game on Friday, September 15, 2006. "Wet" best describes the action. The field was soaked from two days of rain and it rained most of the game. Maybe the more accurate score is Big Piney 12 – Pinedale 11. That is how many fumbles each team had with a very slippery football.

Pinedale came out aggressive and controlled the first quarter and half of the second. They had some success running the ball with a couple good drives, but both were stopped by mistakes. On the other side, Big Piney was unable to get any offense going due to several fumbles, a wet field, and an aggressive Pinedale defense.

The momentum shifted quickly with seven minutes remaining in the 2nd quarter when Brett Moffat connected with Nick Mackie for a 33-yard touchdown pass on 4th down. That was the only pass the Punchers completed all day. After stopping the Wranglers in four downs, the Punchers drove 66 yards and scored again on a 3-yard run by Seth Linn.

The Wranglers fumbled the following kickoff giving the ball right back to Big Piney. On 2nd down Brett Moffat ran 18 yards for another touchdown. In a little over five minutes the Punchers had built a 19-0 half-time lead.

In the second half a strong Puncher run game, stiff Puncher defense, and turnovers kept the Wranglers from making a comeback. The Wranglers lost four fumbles, had two interceptions and two blocked punts. Turnovers led to 26 of the Puncher's 32 points. With only two minutes gone in the 3rd quarter, Parker Greenwood ran 23 yards on the first play after a blocked punt pushing the lead to 26-0.

With five minutes left in the 3rd quarter, Brett Moffat ran 19 yards for the Puncher's final touchdown on the first play after a Wrangler fumble. The Punchers lost four fumbles and had one interception, but the Wranglers were not able to take advantage.

Pinedale (0-3) hosts Kemmerer (2-1) next Saturday, September 23 at 1:00 pm. Big Piney (2-1) travels to Rawlins (0-3) next Friday, September 22 at 7:00 pm.
