Over 450 of Wyoming’s best high school music students will meet in Rock Springs on January 14-16, 2007, for the 2007 Wyoming All-State Band, Orchestra, and Choir Clinic.

Rock Springs High School will host all of the clinic rehearsals.

The All-State Clinic is held in conjunction with the Wyoming Music Educator’s Association’s conference. The Wyoming High School Activities Association, together with the Wyoming Music Educator’s Association, sponsors this annual event.

The All-State Gala Concert will be presented on Tuesday, January 16, 2007, beginning at 7:00PM. Admission is $5.00 for adults and $4.00 for students (K-12).

Music students from all high schools around Wyoming were able to audition in early November for these groups. They were then selected based on their audition performances and invited to participate with the individual honors groups. In band from Pinedale, sophomore Maxwell Burns was picked to perform on trombone and sophomore, Ashley Transtrum, was selected on her clarinet. This was the second year in a row that these two made the all-state band. Kathryn Konicek, also a sophomore, was selected to the all-state choir in the soprano I section.

Two orchestra students, sponsored by Pinedale High School, auditioned and were selected to perform with the all-state orchestra. They were sophomore Thomas Dirks on violin and freshmen Rebecca Dirks on cello. This was also Thomas’ second year to make the all-state orchestra.

Dr. Z Randall Stroope, from Omaha, Nebraska will be the conductor of the all-state choir. The conductor of the all-state band will be Steve Bolstad, from Missoula, Montana, and the all-state orchestra director will be Jim Rice, from Everett, Washington.

While there, the students will rehearse in their groups, attend an all-state student banquet, visit music exhibits and perform in a gala concert.

The directors will be transporting the students to their rehearsal sites as well as attending two days of music workshop/clinics. Mr. Sheppard will be a presenter at one of the workshops entitled, “Building and Maintaining a Band in a Small School Setting.”

This is as close as this annual event will ever happen. If you can, come down and listen to these outstanding groups perform Tuesday, January 16th, at the main gym on Western Wyoming’s College Campus at 7:00 PM.
